Spring is a great time to visit the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton. If you have kids, they can run safely around exploring the majestic grounds. There are surprises around every corner and it is a fabulous way to spend a couple hours. Nikolai loves the lady taking a shower. (Behind Rat’s) He’s only 3 but I think his first glimpse of her last summer had a lasting effect.
There is currently an amazing exhibit by Deborah Butterfield, an American sculptor. She is most known for her beautiful horses made from pieces of metal, and wood. I was amazed at how she can take these regular found objects and create the gorgeous creatures that seem to have a living soul. This exhibit is running through April 10.
Food-wise, you can have a wonderful meal at Rat’s (pricey) or check out the more casual (less pricey) Lounge right next door. There are a couple cafes on the grounds but I personally never ate at them. You can probably get through the grounds in 2 hours so this is a nice short day-trip.
If you have never been to the grounds, you are surely missing out. This is a special place that you must visit! Check their website for special events going on this Spring.
