A couple more weeks and the red plump gift from Mother Nature will be gone. This is a great time to get out in NJ and pick some berries. There are plenty of U-Pick Strawberry Farms in NJ but we have a couple somewhat local ones that are our faves.
Peterson Farm is a nice quiet farm in Flemington that offers u-pick. They have different varieties and you can pick large quantities of good quality (low spray) strawberries. Peterson is very family friendly and have dogs running around. There is nothing “agri-tainment” about this place. It is a farm that opens their fields for you to pick their perfect berries. ($2.10/lb)
Phillips Farm is a bit of a hike from us in Milford, NJ but have a good selection of large strawberries. They charge $2.50/lb over 5 lbs. There was no running water here when we went which was a bummer so bring some of your own, especially if you are bringing kids.
Our tips if you decide to go:
1) Go early (as in when they open)
2) Wear a hat.
3) Bring Water that you can also use to wash hands later if you need to.

This year we decided to make jam again and infuse some Vodka with Mint and Strawberries in a Mason Jar. Do you have any interesting uses for berries in your kitchen or bar? We would love to hear from you! Happy Picking!
